New York Times is Testing App for Niche Content

The New York Times has started an iPhone app called The Collection which will deliver fashion and style related contents of the newspaper. This experimental project will test the waters for stand alone apps providing niche contents to niche audiences. The app will be served free until the end of 2011.

Nowadays everything is about creating niche content and serving it to a small number of specified, niche audience. Not one individual is the same and with that knowledge categories of interest are broken down into smaller fragments to fit exact needs. The app industry is quickly catching with this trend. Even though apps are fairly new to this world, it seems important that it adjust to what people want in particular. I think this can be a great app with the right advertising and pricing.
